Definition

ProRes RAW stores sensor raw data with ProRes compression, combining the flexibility of raw (ISO, white balance in post) with an efficient ProRes workflow.

Practical Application

External recorders (Atomos) capture ProRes RAW from compatible cameras (Nikon Z, Sony FX, Panasonic). A popular alternative to proprietary raw formats for edit-friendly workflows.

Technical Details

Bayer data instead of RGB. Debayering in post-production software (FCPX, DaVinci). Variable bitrate. Two quality levels: ProRes RAW and ProRes RAW HQ. Requires a compatible camera-recorder combination.
