Prolycht Orion 675 FS LED panel: 1,152 LEDs on 30×30 cm, 18,500 lux at 1 m, full-spectrum technology for accurate color rendition, 720 W power consumption.

Technical Details

The light source consists of 1,152 individual LEDs on a 30 x 30 cm surface. The unit delivers 18,500 Lux at a distance of one meter with a 60° beam angle. The Orion 675 FS weighs 8.2 kg and measures 36 x 36 x 12 cm. Cooling is provided by an active fan system with temperature-controlled speed. The unit supports DMX512, Art-Net, and can be remotely controlled via the ProApp iOS/Android application. Power consumption is a maximum of 720 watts at 100-240V AC.

History & Development

Prolycht introduced the Orion 675 FS at NAB in 2019 in response to the growing demand for high-quality LED panels for film productions. The Taiwanese company developed its Full Spectrum technology to address color rendition issues with earlier LED systems. In 2021, a firmware update followed with expanded effect modes and improved color calibration. The current version 3.2 integrates Enhanced Green LEDs for even more precise skin tones.

Practical Use in Film

The Orion 675 FS is particularly suitable for interviews and portraits where even illumination without hotspots is required. In "The Crown" Season 5, the camera team used several units to light interiors at Buckingham Palace. The panel functions as a key light up to 3 meters away or as a large-area fill light. The RGB functionality allows for creative color accents without gels. The drawbacks are its considerable weight, which requires stable stands, and fan noise at maximum output.

Comparison & Alternatives

A direct competitor is the ARRI SkyPanel S60-C, with similar light output but without Full Spectrum technology. The Aputure Nova P300c offers comparable RGB functions at a lower weight but only achieves a CRI of 95+. For pure daylight/tungsten applications without color effects, the more affordable Orion 300 FS is sufficient. For budget productions with the highest color rendition requirements, the 675 FS remains unrivaled, while for mobile shoots, the lower weight of the LitePanel Gemini 2x1 is more advantageous.

Perspectives

Cinematographer
