Overview
The Mo-Sys Lambda is a remote head manufactured by the British company Mo-Sys Engineering. It is not a lighting fixture, but camera movement equipment: the head carries a camera and pans it via motors remotely, while the operator and camera are spatially separated (e.g., on cranes, dollies, technical booms, or in underslung/overslung configurations).
The Lambda is designed as a 2-axis head (Pan/Tilt) and can be expanded to a third axis (Roll) with the Mo-Sys 3rd-Axis Roll Ring accessory. Characteristic features include digital encoders, powerful motors, and virtually zero backlash drive, allowing movements to be executed without start-up or reversal play, and thus without perceptible latency. Originally designed for motion control, the head is suitable for free live operation as well as for precisely repeatable, programmed camera movements.

Dimensions (according to rental company datasheets, approximate): Width approx. 55 cm (21.5 inches); minimum length approx. 67 cm (26.5 inches) underslung or approx. 57 cm (22.5 inches) overslung. The tested datasheets do not provide a depth specification.
Use on Set
The Lambda is primarily used where the camera needs to be moved freely and precisely around subjects without an operator sitting directly at the head. The 360° continuous rotation and high resolution allow for dynamic live pans as well as precisely reproducible repeat moves, making the head interesting for motion control shots, VFX plate photography, and complex choreography. Movements can be recorded and played back via touchscreen.
With the optional third axis ring (Roll), the 2-axis head becomes a 3-axis head for shots with roll rotation. Mo-Sys is also known for camera tracking and virtual production systems (e.g., StarTracker); the Lambda is part of the product portfolio around remote heads and image robotics. A newer generation is designated as Lambda 2.0.
