Godox 150W LED light fixture delivering 58,000 lux at 1 meter, Bowens mount, app-controlled; budget-friendly for film and video production.

Technical Details

The spotlight delivers 58,000 Lux illuminance at a distance of one meter with a standard reflector, achieving a luminous efficacy of 380 Lux/Watt. The brightness can be continuously dimmed from 10% to 100%, selectable via the rear LCD display, the Godox Light app, or DMX512 control. The aluminum housing with active cooling via variable fan speed weighs 2.6 kg without the power supply. The Bowens S-mount allows for the use of common light modifiers such as softboxes, beauty dishes, or Fresnel lenses. Power is supplied via an integrated 150W power supply with a standard IEC connector.

History & Development

Godox introduced the SL series in 2018 as a cost-effective alternative to established LED panels from Arri or Litepanels. The SL150II was released in 2020 as a revised version with quieter fan control and improved thermal stability. The Chinese manufacturer thus successfully positioned itself in the prosumer and low-budget segment, after already gaining market share with its flash units for photography.

Practical Application in Film

The SL150II is suitable as a key light for interviews, fill light for exterior shots, or for indirect room illumination via ceiling or walls. In productions such as independent films or corporate videos, it often functions as the main light source for small to medium setups. The uniform light distribution and high color rendering make it particularly suitable for skin-tone critical shots. The Bowens mount offers flexibility when using various light modifiers, while app control allows for simultaneous adjustment of multiple units.

Comparison & Alternatives

Compared to the Aputure LS C120d II, the Godox offers comparable light output at a significantly lower price, but lacks V-mount battery operation. The Arri Orbiter or Litepanels Gemini 1x1 are considerably more expensive, but offer RGB color mixing and more robust construction. For pure daylight applications, the SL150II costs around 280 Euros, while bi-color LEDs like the Godox SL150IIBi offer more flexibility in changing lighting conditions.

Perspectives

Cinematographer
