GFM Grip Factory Munich

Overview

GFM – Grip Factory Munich is a manufacturer of camera support and grip equipment for professional film and television production. Founded in 1999, the company is based in Eching near Munich and is run as a second-generation family business. GFM designs and manufactures its products at its own facility – utilizing, among other things, an in-house CNC machine park, certified welders, and its own assembly department.

Unlike most terms related to set lighting, GFM is not a device type or an ANSI lamp code, but rather a brand or manufacturer. Several GFM products – most notably the GF-Primo Dolly – have become international de facto standards in the grip department.

Use on Set

GFM equipment is used for precise, repeatable camera movement – from simple track systems to studio and exterior dollies, and modular telescopic cranes for remote head operation. Dollies like the GF-Primo are used in the grip department for tracking shots and stable static movements, while the cranes (GF-8/9/16) provide greater height and reach for remote head setups. The slider and jib systems cover smaller, quickly deployable movements.
