GF-Slider: A modular camera slider and tracking system by Grip Factory Munich (GFM) featuring interchangeable rails in various lengths.

Overview

The GF-Slider (full name: GF-Slider System) is a camera slider and tracking system from the Munich-based manufacturer Grip Factory Munich (GFM). It falls under camera support and grip equipment and is used to execute linear camera movements along a track – comparable to a compact, lighter alternative to a dolly and track.

Its characteristic feature is the very low profile: the slider can be operated directly on the floor, which facilitates low-angle movements and tight setups. The system is modular – the tracks are interchangeable and available in multiple lengths, and the camera or base mount can be chosen according to production requirements.

Construction and Mounting

The GF-Slider consists of a tracking carriage and the respective track. Various options are available for connecting the camera and support:

  • Carriage Mount: for Mitchell, Bowl, or Euro adapter mounts
  • Base Mount: optionally Euro adapter or Mitchell base
  • Nose Mount Adapter: Scaffold/Gerüst mount, lighting stand mount, or levelling legs for alignment

The tracks are equipped with 3/8" threaded holes spaced 1 inch apart, allowing accessories to be attached along the entire length of the track.

Technical Specifications

The system is offered with interchangeable tracks in multiple lengths:

Track Length (Metric)Track Length (Imperial)
60 cm2'
70 cm2'4"
100 cm3'3"
120 cm4'
200 cm6'7"
250 cm8'2"
300 cm9'10"

Specific details regarding weight, height, and load capacity are not consistently specified by the manufacturer on their product page and are therefore intentionally omitted here.

On-Set Use

Longer tracks offer more travel for extended tracking or reveal shots, while shorter ones are lighter and more portable. In the so-called Sliding-Offset Mode, the slider can be used for offset panning as well as for tabletop and tight tracking shots. Due to its low profile, modularity, and interchangeable tracks, the GF-Slider is frequently used by grips and cinematographers for low-angle movements and confined shooting locations.

From the crafts

Perspectives

Cinematographer
