The gel is offered as sheets (standard sheet size 20" × 24" / approx. 50 × 60 cm) and as rolls in various widths.
Set Usage
Like all color gels, Rosco 318 is stretched in front of the lighting fixture – clipped into the filter frame, the color frame, or over the barndoors. Since the material is placed in front of hot lights, sufficient distance from the lamp should be maintained to prevent premature fading ("burning out"); for very powerful heads, the more heat-resistant polycarbonate substrate is recommended.
- Sunset/Magic Hour: warms the light towards the evening sun without shifting as strongly into orange-red as deeper correction colors.
- Back and Edge Light: adds warm, salmon-colored accents to hair and shoulder areas.
- Skin Tone Warming: gives faces a friendly, sunny undertone.
Due to its 52% transmission, the gel noticeably reduces the amount of light – this must be factored into the exposure and power budget.
