Rosco 3034

Overview

Rosco Cinegel #3034 is a diffusion material from the manufacturer Rosco's Cinegel series. It is designated as 1/4 Grid Cloth and belongs to the Grid Cloth family of tear-resistant diffusion fabrics. It is not a color filter (no CTO/CTB) but a light-scattering fabric that softens hard lamp light and dissolves shadow edges.

Within the Grid Cloth range, #3034 is the weakest, least dense variant: it diffuses less than Full Grid Cloth (#3030) and Light Grid Cloth (#3032), thereby retaining more light output and a more directional characteristic. The material is deep-dyed on a heat-resistant polyester fabric and is woven-reinforced, making it significantly more robust than thin diffusion gels.

Formats

The #3034 is available in several configurations:

• Sheets, e.g., 20" x 24"
• Rolls, e.g., 48" x 25'
• Fabric for Butterflies and Overheads in square frame sizes (including 6', 8', 12', 20')
• Fluorescent tube sleeves

The fabrics are hemmed and equipped with grommets; the material can be sewn and hemmed.

Use on Set

As a tear-resistant fabric, #3034 is particularly suitable for large-area diffusion and for "tenting," such as covering large frames, diffusing daylight through windows, or as fabric for Butterflies and Overheads above the shooting location. Due to the low light loss of around 3/4 stop, it is chosen when only subtle softening is desired and as much light output as possible needs to be preserved. Compared to denser Grid Cloths, it provides a more subtle, directional soft light and is therefore often used for portrait and product shots, as well as a light correction stage.
