Rosco 3304

Overview

Rosco #3304, marketed as "Tough Plusgreen" (also "Windowgreen"), is a color correction filter (lighting gel) from the manufacturer Rosco. It belongs to the Cinegel and Roscolux product lines and is part of the Plusgreen filter group, which adds green. It is not a diffusion filter but a correction gel that specifically shifts the color tone of a light source towards green.

Practical purpose: Daylight sources (daylight HMIs, daylight LEDs, or filtered incandescent light) are color-matched to standard "U.S. Cool White" or Daylight fluorescent tubes. This allows artificial light sources and existing fluorescent lighting to be color-balanced in the image.

Technical Specifications

The gel is manufactured on a heat-resistant polymer base (Rosco "deep-dyed" technology for heat stability and uniform color reproduction). Typical delivery forms are individual sheets (e.g., 20" x 24") as well as rolls.

Use on Set

#3304 is stretched or clipped in front of lamps to make a daylight source "greenish" so that it matches existing fluorescent lighting. Common scenarios include offices, supermarkets, hospitals, or industrial halls with Cool White tubes, where additional film lighting is supplemented.

• Matching: Adding green to match daylight fixtures to Cool White/Daylight fluorescent tubes.
• Correction: Often considered in combination with magenta filters (Minusgreen), which achieve the opposite effect, such as neutralizing the green cast of fluorescent light.
• Strength Gradation: Within the Plusgreen series, #3304 is the stronger variant; weaker green corrections are available as 1/2 and 1/4 Plusgreen.

Note: With the increasing prevalence of color-tunable LED lights, such green/magenta corrections can often be generated directly via the lamp control (e.g., Plus/Minus Green or Tint controls); however, physical gels like #3304 remain in use as a reliable, device-independent solution.
