Lee 272

Overview

Lee 272 (Soft Gold Reflector) is a reflector material from the British manufacturer LEE Filters. Unlike classic color correction and effect gels, the 272 is not used for filtering light in the beam path, but for bouncing light. It belongs to LEE's small family of reflectors and provides a soft, warm-toned (golden) reflection – ideal for filling shadows and making optimal use of existing light.

The material is part of a trio of related reflectors that differ in their reflection characteristics and color tone.

The LEE Reflector Family

According to the manufacturer, all three are white backed. The reverse side can be used as an additional, neutral white reflection surface, creating a different effect depending on which side is used.

Usage on Set

The 272 is used as a bounce surface: hard or direct light is directed onto the material and bounced back into the scene as a soft, slightly golden fill. Typical applications:

• Filling Shadows / Fill: soft illumination of shadow areas without creating a hard secondary shadow.
• Warm-toned Negative/Bounce Reflection: the golden character is suitable for skin-tone flattering fill and warm lighting moods.
• Available Light Work: utilizing and redirecting existing (day)light, for example, on exterior locations.

The golden soft variant (272) gives the reflection a warmer look than the neutral soft silver variant (273), while the mirror silver variant (271) produces a significantly harder, more directed reflection.

According to the manufacturer, Lee 272 is available in the following formats:

• Half Sheet: approx. 0.61 m x 0.53 m (24" x 21")
• Rolls: in custom widths from approx. 2.5 cm to 1.17 m (1" to 46") with a length of approx. 7.62 m (25'); also available from specialist dealers in wider standard rolls.
