Lee 113

Overview

Lee 113 "Magenta" is a color effect lighting filter from the British manufacturer LEE Filters. It belongs to the range of effect colors and produces a strong, saturated magenta tint of the light passing through. Filters of this type are placed in front of luminaires to color the light – either directly in filter holders and barndoors or in frames in front of the light source.

LEE itself describes the color as a very strong effect that should be used selectively and for smaller areas on set. Due to its high saturation, 113 is more often used for accents, colored backgrounds, or stylized lighting moods than for broad area illumination.

On-Set Use

On set, Lee 113 serves as a pure color effect, not for color temperature correction. Typical applications include coloring backgrounds, practicals, or accent lights, as well as creating stylized color contrasts – for example, magenta against cyan or green. Since the effect is very strong and the filter absorbs a lot of light, the manufacturer recommends selective use on smaller areas. For permanent mounting close to hot luminaires (Tungsten/HMI), as with all filters, ensure sufficient distance and ventilation, as color filters fade under heat.
