Godox Knowled COB LED lights (60W–600W) with Bowens mount, 14 FX effects, and wireless control for budget productions.

Technical Details

The Knowled series includes models ranging from 60W to 600W in power, with the flagship M600Bi achieving a light output of 55,000 Lux at one meter distance. All units utilize COB (Chip-on-Board) LED technology and feature 2.4GHz radio control as well as DMX compatibility. The lights work with Bowens mount connectors and support 14 special effects such as flash, fire, and TV simulation. The color temperature is continuously adjustable, and the brightness can be dimmed from 0-100%.

History & Development

Godox introduced the Knowled series in 2020 to tap into the growing market for affordable professional LED lighting. As an established flash equipment manufacturer since 2009, Godox expanded its portfolio to include continuous lighting. In 2021, the Knowled M series followed with higher power classes, and in 2022, the C series for compact applications. The series quickly established itself as a budget alternative to Arri, Aputure, and other premium brands.

Practical Use in Film

Knowled lights are suitable for interview setups, product films, and low-budget feature films. The M600Bi replaces classic 2K tungsten spotlights with significantly lower power consumption and heat generation. In the Netflix series "The Crown," the lighting team used Godox lights for background illumination in interiors. The integrated effects speed up standard setups: the candlelight mode simulates flickering candlelight without additional programming, and the police light effect creates blue flashing sequences.

Comparison & Alternatives

Compared to Arri SkyPanel or Litepanels Gemini, Godox Knowled offers 60-70% lower acquisition costs with comparable light quality. Aputure Light Storm remains the main competitor with similar pricing but a more established ecosystem. CAME-TV Boltzen lights cost less but achieve lower CRI values. For Hollywood productions, Arri and Kino Flo remain the standard, while Knowled excels in corporate video production and independent films.

Perspectives

Cinematographer
