Nanlite 150W COB-LED spot with 165W power consumption, continuously dimmable 10–100%, active cooling under 30dB, 1.8kg weight; ideal key light for interviews.
Technical Details
The light source is based on a COB (Chip-on-Board) LED chip with a lifespan of 50,000 hours. At full load, the Forza 150 draws exactly 165 watts from the socket and can be continuously dimmed from 10% to 100%. The housing measures 185 × 135 × 220mm with a weight of 1.8kg. Active cooling is provided by a nearly silent fan with an operating noise level below 30dB. Nanlite offers DMX control via an optional wireless module as well as app control via Bluetooth. The Forza series includes the smaller 60W and the larger 300W and 500W variants.
History & Development
Nanlite launched the Forza series in 2019 as direct competition to Arri Skypanels and Aputure Light Storm devices. The Chinese company thus successfully established itself in the prosumer-adjacent segment between consumer LEDs and high-end studio lights. In 2021, the revised Forza 150B followed with improved color rendering and reduced dimensions. The series revolutionized the price-performance ratio for compact LED spotlights and forced established manufacturers to adjust prices.
Practical Use in Film
Cinematographers appreciate the Forza 150 as a versatile key light for interviews and as a hair light in larger setups. With a softbox, it is suitable for close-ups and talking heads, while the bare spot creates hard shadows for film noir looks. Independent productions often use the device as a mobile main light, as it can be operated via power supply and V-mount batteries. The high light output allows for shooting at ISO 800-1600 without visible image noise. Disadvantages become apparent in large-area lighting, where the 150W quickly reaches its limits.
Comparison & Alternatives
The Aputure Light Storm LS 120d II offers similar performance, but with a more robust housing and a higher price. The Godox VL150 competes directly in terms of price but achieves lower CRI values. Nanlite positions the Forza 150B as its successor with bi-color functionality and RGBWW features. For larger productions, the Arri SkyPanel S30-C or Aputure Nova P300c replace the Forza 150, while the more compact Forza 60 is sufficient for pure run-and-gun shoots.
