Definition

DCI 4K (4096x2160) is the cinema standard for 4K projection defined by the Digital Cinema Initiatives. It is wider than UHD 4K (3840x2160), which is used for consumer displays.

Practical Application

All major cinema chains project to DCI specifications. Professional cinema cameras such as ARRI, RED, and Sony record native DCI 4K. Mastering for cinema distribution is done according to DCI specifications.

DCI 4K Flat (1.85:1): 3996x2160. DCI 4K Scope (2.39:1): 4096x1716. Color Space: DCI-P3. Bit Depth: 12-bit. Compression: JPEG2000. Container: MXF (DCP). The specification also includes security (Encryption) and quality control.
