Overview
The Vazen 28mm T2.2 1.8x Anamorphic is an anamorphic cine prime lens from the manufacturer Vazen. It is not a lighting or grip device, but camera optics. With a 28mm focal length, it represents the wide-angle end of the Vazen 1.8x Anamorphic series, which also includes a 40mm and a 65mm lens.
As with classic anamorphic lenses, the cylindrical front element compresses the image horizontally. With the 1.8x compression used here, a 4:3 sensor crop (typical for Micro Four Thirds) results in an aspect ratio of approximately 2.39:1 after desqueezing. Characteristic are the oval bokeh shapes typical of anamorphic optics, as well as horizontal lens flares with a blue color cast.

On-Set Usage
The lens is aimed at productions that want to achieve an anamorphic cinematic look with small, lightweight equipment. Due to its low weight and MFT/RF mount, it is suitable for compact cameras such as the Panasonic GH5, Z CAM E2, or Blackmagic models, and therefore also for gimbal and handheld use.
Both control rings (focus and aperture) are equipped with standardized 0.8-mod gear rings and can therefore be directly controlled with common follow focus systems and motors. The 77mm front thread accepts ND filters or diopters (close-up lenses) which can shorten the minimum focus distance. In post-production, the compressed image must be horizontally desqueezed by a factor of 1.8 to display the correct aspect ratio.
