Anamorphic camera lens by Sirui with 24mm focal length, F2.8 aperture, and 1.33x squeeze ratio for APS-C and Super-35 sensors.

Overview

The SIRUI 24mm F2.8 1.33x Anamorphic is an anamorphic photo and cine lens from the Chinese manufacturer SIRUI. It produces the wide-screen look typical of anamorphic lenses: using cylindrical optics, the image is horizontally compressed (squeeze) during recording and de-squeezed in post-production. With a squeeze factor of 1.33x, a 16:9 sensor produces an aspect ratio of approximately 2.4:1 (CinemaScope) without having to crop the top and bottom of the image content.

The lens is designed for APS-C or Super 35 sensors and is manufactured as a pure manual focus lens without electronic aperture control. It belongs to the entry-level series with which SIRUI has made anamorphic filmmaking accessible for smaller budgets.

On-Set Usage

Manual focus is achieved via a long throw with markings, allowing for precise focus pulling; a follow focus can be attached via the gear-compatible focus ring. Since the aperture is adjusted manually and steplessly, the lens is suitable for controlled lighting on set. The non-rotating front element allows the use of polarizing and graduated filters without changing their orientation during focusing.

As a wide-angle focal length in an anamorphic setup, the 24mm lens is typically used for wide shots, establishing shots, and tight interior spaces. Characteristic of anamorphic optics are the oval shape of the bokeh and horizontal lens flares, which SIRUI also offers in a blue flare variant for this series.

Perspectives

Cinematographer
