Overview
The Vazen 65mm 1.8x Anamorphic is an anamorphic cinema lens from the manufacturer Vazen. It operates with a front anamorphic adapter and a squeeze factor of 1.8x. In combination with the 4:3 sensor mode available on many cameras, this results in an aspect ratio of approximately 2.39:1. The 65mm, along with the Vazen 28mm and 40mm focal lengths, forms a consistently designed 1.8x anamorphic series.
Optically, the series delivers the typical anamorphic image characteristics: oval bokeh, stretched reflections, and horizontal lens flares. The standard version produces blue horizontal flares; there is also a variant with amber flares.

On-Set Usage
The lens is designed for cameras with smaller sensors and a usable 4:3 mode, such as the Panasonic GH5 and BGH1, Z CAM E2, and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K/6K. The 4:3 sensor crop provides the image height that the 1.8x anamorphic lens needs to produce the wide 2.39:1 format after de-squeezing.
With 0.8-mod gears on the focus and aperture rings, the 65mm can be directly operated with follow focus systems. The uniform 95mm front diameter within the series facilitates quick changes of matte boxes and filters when swapping lenses. As the longer focal length in the series, the 65mm is particularly suitable for tighter framing, close-ups, and portraits with an anamorphic character; the minimum focus distance of 1.09 m limits the minimum subject distance.
