Manual full-frame 21mm f/1.5 wide-angle lens by Chinese manufacturer TTArtisan, designed for mirrorless cameras and Leica-M mounts.

Overview

The TTArtisan 21mm f/1.5 ASPH is a manual focus wide-angle prime lens from the Chinese manufacturer TTArtisan. It covers full-frame (35mm format) and is among the more compact, fast 21mm optics on the market. The lens does not have autofocus or electronic aperture control – focus and aperture are set mechanically via rings on the barrel. Due to its high aperture of f/1.5, it is suitable for available light shooting and for selective focus planes despite its wide focal length.

Use on Set

In photography and videography, the 21mm is used as a wide-angle stylistic tool for architecture, landscape, reportage, and atmospheric available light situations. As it operates purely manually, it is suitable for film shoots with fixed or practiced focus settings, less so for fast autofocus workflows. Due to the lack of electronic contacts, most mounts do not transfer aperture or lens data into the camera's metadata. Its compact design and availability for many mirrorless systems make it an affordable alternative to significantly more expensive fast wide-angle optics from established manufacturers.

Perspectives

Cinematographer
