Overview

The Tokina Cinema Vista (often referred to as "Vista Primes") is a series of fast prime lenses from the Japanese manufacturer Tokina for professional film and TV use. The lenses are consistently designed for a maximum aperture of T1.5 and have a large image circle that extends beyond the Full-Frame format (FF35) and also covers VistaVision and large 8K sensors. This makes them among the large-format cine lenses.

All focal lengths in the series share a uniform mechanical housing with the same front diameter and identical positioning of the focus and aperture rings. This allows for quick lens changes on set without reconfiguring the follow focus and matte box.

On-Set Usage

Thanks to their high T1.5 aperture, the Vista lenses are suitable for low-light shooting and for shallow depth of field with soft background blur. The large image circle makes them typical tools for large-format productions (e.g., on VistaVision/8K sensors). The uniform build size, geared focus and aperture rings, and minimal focus breathing support precise, repeatable focus pulls in professional camera and focus assist work.

Als Kameramann schätze ich die Tokina Cinema Vista für ihre außergewöhnliche Schärfeleistung und das angenehme Bokeh, besonders bei Porträtaufnahmen. Die einheitliche T1.5-Blende gibt mir die Flexibilität, auch bei schwierigen Lichtverhältnissen ohne zusätzliches Equipment zu arbeiten. Das geringe Focus Breathing und die präzisen Zahnkränze machen das Arbeiten mit dem Focus Puller deutlich entspannter.

Director

Die Cinema Vista Objektive geben mir die kreative Freiheit, sowohl intime Nahaufnahmen als auch weitläufige Establishing Shots mit der gleichen visuellen Sprache zu erzählen. Besonders die konsistente Farbwiedergabe über alle Brennweiten hinweg unterstützt meine visuelle Erzählweise. In der Zusammenarbeit mit meinem Kameramann kann ich mich darauf verlassen, dass der Look zwischen den verschiedenen Brennweiten nahtlos funktioniert.
