Snapbag: DoPchoice's patented self-tensioning softbox that mounts tool-free onto LED lights without a speed ring.

Overview

The SNAPBAG® is a self-tensioning softbox from the German lighting modifier manufacturer DoPchoice, based in Munich. Unlike traditional softboxes, where multiple rods must be individually threaded into a speed ring, the SNAPBAG unfolds itself in seconds thanks to integrated, springy frame rods, keeping the diffusion fabric taut and wrinkle-free. DoPchoice describes the SNAPBAG as the first self-tensioning softbox for the LED lighting era; the design is patented.

A characteristic feature is the metallically coated interior lining (silver interior), which increases the light output of the fixture and distributes the light evenly across the front. When collapsed, the SNAPBAG can be stored flat. Together with the SNAPGRID®, the RABBIT-EARS® mounting system, and the rigid variant SNAPBOX®, the SNAPBAG forms the core ecosystem of DoPchoice.

Types and Mounting

SNAPBAGs are offered in several basic shapes, including:

  • Rectangular – for broad, directed light
  • Octa / round (e.g., Octa 3', Octa 5', Octa 7') – for soft, round light and natural round catchlights
  • Lantern / Dome – for omnidirectional light radiating all around

The RABBIT-EARS® system is typically used for attachment, a universal softbox holder that replaces the heavy, cumbersome speed ring and allows for tool-free, quick attachment and detachment of the SNAPBAG to various LED fixtures. Additionally, manufacturer-specific SNAPBAG variants exist that can be attached directly via hook-and-loop fasteners or through fixture-specific adapters to certain lights (e.g., Astera HydraPanel, Litepanels Gemini/Astra, Rosco DMG, Aputure, Nanlux/Nanlite Play).

Light Control: SNAPGRID

As an accessory, a SNAPGRID® honeycomb grid can be attached to the front of a SNAPBAG. It bundles the outgoing light, reduces spill light, and enables more targeted, directed illumination. SNAPGRIDs are available to match the SNAPBAG shapes (rectangular, octa) and are offered in various beam angles.

On-Set Use

The SNAPBAG is used in film, TV, and photo productions to create a large, soft light area from hard LED sources – for example, as key or fill light for interviews, portraits, and beauty setups. The crucial practical advantage is speed: setup and breakdown occur without loose small parts that can be lost or broken. This makes the SNAPBAG particularly suitable for mobile setups, run-and-gun shoots, and situations with tight turnaround times.
