Ruby 7

ARRI multi-PAR fixture with seven PAR-64 lamps (7×1000 W = 7 kW) and central axial focus.

Overview

The Ruby 7 is a Tungsten (3200 K) spotlight from ARRI that bundles seven separate PAR 64 lamps into a single housing. This places it in the category of so-called Multi-PAR spotlights (also known as "Maxi-Brute"-style clusters), which generate high light output from multiple parallel PAR reflectors. Due to its total output, the unit is often listed by rental houses as the "7,000-watt Ruby 7."

The unique feature compared to classic fixed PAR clusters is the axial focus: all seven lamps can be adjusted together via a single central handle. This allows the individual beams to converge into a narrow, hard spot or spread out into a wide flood. According to manufacturer and rental descriptions, the beams can overlap from less than half a meter to tens of meters away.

Individual rental houses specify a power connection in the range of 100 A / 110 V; this value varies depending on the configuration and should be clarified with the specific rental company before shooting.

Accessories and Compatibility

According to the manufacturer, the Ruby 7 was the first Multi-PAR spotlight that could be operated with ARRI's 740 mm standard accessories, such as softboxes for softening the light. Barndoors and scrims are shared with the ARRI T24 and Daylight 12/18 lamp heads, simplifying accessory logistics in mixed ARRI inventories.

Set Usage

As a 7 kW Tungsten unit, the Ruby 7 delivers a lot of hard, directed light output from a compact head and is suitable for punching through windows, as a sun or key light over longer distances, and for illuminating large sets. Via the axial focus, it can be adjusted from a concentrated spot to a wide flood without needing to adjust individual lamps separately. Like all Tungsten spotlights, it emits at 3200 K and requires appropriate conversion filters (CTB) to match daylight (5600 K).
