DJI's professional 3-axis camera gimbal with up to 13.6 kg payload capacity for cinema cameras on set.

Overview

The Ronin 2 is a professional, motorized 3-axis camera stabilizer (gimbal) manufactured by DJI. It belongs to the category of camera support/grip systems and keeps the camera steady on three electronically controlled axes (Pan, Tilt, Roll), thereby calculating out jitters and vibrations from movement. Unlike lightweight single-handed gimbals, the Ronin 2 is designed for use with heavy cinema cameras and complete setups, including lenses, follow focus, wireless monitors, and matte boxes.

The Ronin 2 is designed as a modular system: it can be operated handheld, on vehicle rigs, on camera cranes, on tripods, on cable cam systems, or under larger drones. This allows it to cover a broad spectrum from feature film and commercial to documentary productions.

On-Set Usage

On set, the Ronin 2 is first balanced: the camera is moved on the axes so that it holds its position in any orientation before the motors take over fine control. Three operating modes are available:

  • Upright Mode – Camera above the handle frame, classic carrying position.
  • Underslung Mode – Camera hanging below the frame for low camera heights.
  • Briefcase Mode – held sideways, narrow, for example, for tight corridors and doorways.

The Ronin 2 is often operated by two people: the operator handles the gimbal, while a second operator controls the axes (Pan/Tilt) via a remote control. This allows for complex camera movements – such as transfers between vehicles, cranes, and Steadicam-like handheld operation. Due to its weight and high payload capacity, it is often supported on an Easyrig or a vehicle mount for longer takes.
