NiSi full-frame cine primes at a constant T1.4 (NAB April 2025) — 18/24/35/50/85mm at launch, 46mm image circle, considerably faster than NiSi's older ATHENA line.
The NiSi AUREUS PRIME is not a first attempt at a lens series from a filter manufacturer – NiSi was already in the cine market with the ATHENA line. The Aureus is a rapid expansion alongside it: a consistent T1.4 compared to the T1.9 and T2.4 of the Athenas. Introduced at NAB in April 2025, shipping begins in July.
The Series
Five focal lengths at launch: 18, 24, 35, 50, and 85mm. 29, 65, and 105mm were announced. All lenses weigh 1,300 grams, have a 90mm front diameter, an 86mm filter thread, and a 0.8 module – meaning a change doesn't require reconfiguring the matte box or follow focus. The 46mm image circle covers Super 35, full-frame, and large format.
Rear Filter
The built-in rear filter holder is noteworthy. Light filtration sits close to the body instead of at the front of the lens – this is beneficial wherever balance is crucial: gimbal, handheld, Steadicam.
Positioning
In terms of price, the 24, 35, 50, and 85mm lenses are each $2,299 USD, the 18mm is $2,599 USD, and the five-lens set in a case is $9,999 USD. This positions the Aureus to compete with DZOFilm, Sirui, and Samyang – and places it an order of magnitude below Cooke, ARRI Master Primes, or Leitz. It does not replicate the optical character of these brands; it delivers modern coatings and controlled flares at a fraction of the price.
