Nanlite PavoSlim: compact LED panel with 576 bi-color LEDs, CRI 96+, 120W consumption, 3.8kg. Preferred for on-location and mobile productions due to slim form factor and battery-powered operation.

Technical Details

The PavoSlim 120C features 576 bi-color LEDs with a CRI of 96+ and TLCI of 97+. The fixture weighs 3.8 kg and can be powered via V-mount batteries, DC power supply, or Anton Bauer Gold Mount. At full power, the power consumption is 120 watts. The panel offers 0-100% dimming in 1% increments and nine special effects including strobe, candle, and TV simulation. DMX control is via 5-pin XLR, and 2.4GHz wireless remote control is also possible.

History & Development

Nanlite introduced the first PavoSlim generation in 2019 in response to the growing demand for compact, powerful LED panels for mobile film productions. In 2021, the revised 120C model followed with improved color rendering and expanded control options. The development directly responded to cinematographer feedback regarding portability while maintaining professional light quality, which led to the characteristic slim design.

Practical Application in Film

The PavoSlim is particularly suitable for green screen illumination, as its even light distribution across the large surface area avoids hotspots. In interview situations, it serves as a soft key light, while its shallow depth allows for discreet placement. The bi-color function allows it to adapt flexibly to existing ambient light – from warm interiors to cool daylight. Its whisper-quiet operation makes it ideal for synchronized sound recording, while its battery capability enables location-independent work.

Comparison & Alternatives

Compared to classic tungsten lights, the PavoSlim significantly reduces heat generation and power consumption. Compared to the Arri SkyPanel S30-C, it offers a similar illuminated area with less depth, but less light output. Alternatives include the Aputure Nova P300c or Litepanels Gemini 2x1, which however have different size ratios. The PavoSlim is positioned in the mid-price segment between consumer panels and high-end broadcast solutions, making it particularly attractive for independent productions and smaller teams.

Perspectives

Cinematographer
