Lee 210: neutral density gel from LEE Filters reducing light by 2 stops without color shift.

Overview

Lee 210 (full designation: LEE 210 0.6 ND) is a filter sheet from the British manufacturer LEE Filters and belongs to the group of neutral grey or ND (Neutral Density) sheets. It is not a light source or grip equipment, but a gel sheet that is stretched in front of lights or over windows to reduce the amount of light.

The 210 reduces light by two f-stops (2 stops) without altering the color or contrast of the light. It is part of LEE's ND series, which is graduated by reduced density (including 209 = 0.3 ND / 1 stop, 210 = 0.6 ND / 2 stops, 211 = 0.9 ND / 3 stops).

Technical Data

The sheet is available as a full sheet (approx. 1.22 m x 0.53 m) and half sheet (approx. 0.61 m x 0.53 m), as well as in various roll widths, including wide rolls for window application.

Use on Set

The 210 is primarily used to attenuate light sources without affecting their color temperature:

  • Window Application: Overly bright daylight through windows is reduced so that interior and exterior exposure remain within a recordable contrast ratio.
  • In front of Lights: Reducing the brightness of a lamp when it is still too bright even at minimum dimming or maximum distance – without using the dimmer (and thus without dimming-induced color shift for Tungsten).
  • Exposure Control: Allows for a wider aperture or precise grading of individual lights on set.

ND sheets like the 210 can be combined with other ND strengths to achieve additional stops and are often used in conjunction with color correction or diffusion gels.
