Overview
Lee 195 "Zenith Blue" is a color effect filter (light gel) from the color range of the British manufacturer LEE Filters. It is a strong, dark blue, heat-resistant polyester film that is placed in front of the light source to color its light – not a glass filter in front of the lens.
Due to its very dark, saturated blue hue, Lee 195 is typically used on set to create a moonlight effect in darkened sets, as well as for coloring cycloramas and backdrops.

On-Set Use
Lee 195 is placed as a film in the gel frame or with clips/clothespins directly into the barndoors of the luminaire. As the film is heat-resistant, it is also suitable for higher-wattage tungsten ERS and Fresnel lights; with very hot sources, ensure sufficient distance from the light source.
- Moonlight / Night-for-Night: classic application for the cold, deep blue appearance of moonlight on darkened sets.
- Backgrounds: Coloring cycloramas and backdrops for atmospheric, saturated blue tones.
Due to the very low transmission (around 2.5–2.7%), the gel absorbs most of the light. Therefore, a correspondingly powerful source or short distance must be planned for the desired brightness.
