GLC: ANSI lamp code for a single-ended 575W/115V halogen lamp (G9.5 base) used in stage and studio lighting.

Overview

GLC is a three-digit ANSI lamp code and denotes a specific tungsten-halogen incandescent lamp commonly used in stage, studio, and theater lighting. As with all ANSI codes (e.g., FEL, HPL, GKV), the abbreviation does not stand for a manufacturer but for a manufacturer-interchangeable lamp type with defined electrical, optical, and mechanical properties. Lamps from different manufacturers with the GLC code (e.g., from Osram, GE, or Ushio) are therefore interchangeable.

The GLC is a single-ended halogen lamp with a two-pin base and a compact design. It is used in numerous luminaires that require a 575W lamp with a pin base.

Note: The 115V rating is typical for 120V mains operation (North America). Values may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer's data sheet.

Use on Set

The GLC is used as a light source in a range of stage and studio luminaires, including models from Altman, Philips Selecon, and Strand Lighting. Thanks to its warm, constant color temperature of 3250 K and its smooth dimming behavior, it is suitable for classic tungsten lighting setups.

  • Interchangeability: The ANSI code allows for quick procurement of a suitable replacement on set, regardless of the manufacturer.
  • Handling: As with all halogen lamps, the glass bulb must not be touched with bare fingers, as skin oils can lead to localized overheating and premature failure.
  • Observe Voltage: For 230V mains (Europe), ensure the correct voltage variant or the appropriate ANSI code is used.
