Falcon Eyes RX-T flexible LED panels with SMD LEDs embedded in silicone, bendable to 180°, sizes from 30×45cm (1800 lux) to 60×90cm (4200 lux), magnetic mount.

Technical Details

The RX-T series is based on a flexible printed circuit board with SMD LEDs embedded in a thin silicone layer. The smallest model, RX-T15, measures 30x45cm with a weight of 2.5kg and delivers 1800 Lux at a distance of one meter, while the largest model, RX-T29, operates with 60x90cm and 4200 Lux. Power is supplied either via V-Mount batteries or an external power supply (100-240V AC). Dimming from 0-100% and color temperature adjustment are controlled via a rear display or DMX-512 protocol. The panels can be bent 180° and feature magnetic corners for quick mounting.

History & Development

Falcon Eyes developed the RX-T series in 2018 in response to the growing demand for mobile, flexible light sources for run-and-gun productions. The Dutch manufacturer, originally from the photography industry, expanded its film lighting portfolio with a cost-effective alternative to established manufacturers like Arri or Litepanels. In 2020, the revised RX-T Mark II version followed with improved color rendering and expanded control options. The series quickly established itself in the independent film scene and among content creators.

Practical Use in Film

The RX-T panels are particularly suitable for interior shots in confined spaces where conventional Fresnels cannot be positioned. The flexible design allows them to be conformed to walls or ceilings for indirect lighting. In TV production, they are often placed as eye lights behind monitors or mounted as hair lights from above. The magnetic mounting points facilitate attachment to metal structures. Limitations become apparent in light output – the maximum luminosity is insufficient for daylight balancing or large sets. Color consistency may deviate slightly with prolonged use.

Comparison & Alternatives

Compared to rigid LED panels like the Litepanels Astra, the RX-T mats offer more flexibility with lower light output. Compared to Arri SkyPanel or similar high-end solutions, extended color modes (RGB, effects) are missing, but the price is 70% lower. Competing flexible LED systems like the Intellytech LiteCloth or Quasar Q-LED offer similar specifications at a higher price. For larger productions with appropriate budgets, traditional HMI or Tungsten lights remain the first choice, while the RX-T series excels in budget-conscious productions and documentary work.

From the crafts

Perspectives

Cinematographer
