Technical Details

Warm colors (1900-3000 Kelvin color temperature) activate the sympathetic nervous system and measurably increase pulse and blood pressure by 5-15%. Cold colors (5600-9300 Kelvin) have a calming effect and reduce cortisol production by an average of 23%. Red increases the attention span by 12%, while blue increases concentration ability by 8%. Green stabilizes intraocular pressure and reduces ciliary muscle fatigue. Complementary contrasts create afterimages on the retina that last 0.2-2 seconds and trigger subconscious unease.

The Coen Brothers deliberately limited "No Country for Old Men" to desaturated earth tones below 40% chroma values for existential emptiness. DIT (Digital Imaging Technician) creates Look-Up Tables (LUTs) on set for consistent color mood.
