ARRI LED panel lights in three sizes (S30-X to S120-X) with Spectra technology for precise color control from 2,800K to 10,000K and up to 18,000 lumens output.
Technical Details
The series includes three main sizes: S30-X (30x30cm, 4,500 lumens), S60-X (60x30cm, 9,000 lumens), and S120-X (120x30cm, 18,000 lumens). Each fixture utilizes ARRI's Spectra technology, which integrates additional color chips in Lime, Cyan, Magenta, and Amber alongside classic Daylight and Tungsten LEDs. The color temperature ranges from 2,800K to 10,000K with full plus/minus green correction. All models feature DMX-512 control, integrated Wi-Fi, and can be remotely controlled via the ARRI Stellar app. Power consumption ranges from 200W (S30-X) to 650W (S120-X).
History & Development
ARRI introduced the original SkyPanel series in 2015 as a response to the demand for high-quality LED soft lights in film production. The X series followed in 2021 with improved spectral technology and higher light output. In 2023, ARRI expanded the system with the SkyPanel X Phosphor variants, specifically optimized for maximum light output in daylight applications. The development is based on ARRI's long-standing experience with HMI technology and the transition to LED-based film lighting.
Practical Use in Film
SkyPanel X fixtures quickly established themselves as the standard for soft light applications in high-end productions. Christopher Nolan used S120-X arrays for large-scale daylight simulation in "Oppenheimer" (2023). The compact S30-X models are particularly suitable for car rigs and confined shooting locations, while the S60-X is often used as a key light through diffusion or as indirect bounce light. The precise color control allows for direct matching with practical light sources and significantly simplifies color grading processes.
Comparison & Alternatives
Compared to competing products like the Creamsource Vortex or Litepanels Gemini, the SkyPanel X stands out with superior color accuracy and build quality. In comparison to traditional HMI fixtures, it offers lower power consumption and eliminates flicker issues in high-speed shooting. Alternatives include the ARRI Orbiter for spot applications or the more affordable Aputure Nova panels for budget-conscious productions. The choice often favors the SkyPanel X when maximum color precision and long-term stability are required.
