Panavision zoom lens with variable focal length and integrated motor drive — enables smooth, precise zoom moves during shooting without external follow-focus rack systems.

Definition

The Panavision PanaSpeed lenses are a specialized series of cine prime lenses for large format cameras, distinguished by their exceptionally high speed. These lenses are exclusively available through the Panavision rental system and were specifically developed for shooting in extremely challenging lighting conditions. With apertures ranging from T1.4 to T2.8, they enable cinematographers to film in natural candlelight or other low-light situations without relying on additional lighting.

The PanaSpeed lenses cover the large format and are therefore optimally designed for modern digital cinema cameras such as the RED Monstro, ARRI Alexa LF, or Sony Venice. They are characterized by a distinctive look with soft bokeh and organic image quality, lending a film-like aesthetic to digital footage.

Practical Application

In German film and television production, PanaSpeed lenses are primarily used for narrative feature films, high-end series, and commercial productions where a natural, authentic visual language is required. These lenses particularly excel in night scenes, interior shots with available light, or atmospheric scenes with candlelight or lamplight. Their high speed significantly reduces the need for elaborate lighting setups.

Technical Details

The PanaSpeed series includes focal lengths from 24mm to 85mm for large format sensors. All lenses feature a PL mount (Positive Lock) and are compatible with standardized follow focus and zoom systems. The lenses are exclusively available through authorized Panavision rental facilities.
