Sensor size equivalent to 35mm still photography film (36x24mm), offering wide field of view and shallow depth of field.
Definition
Full Frame refers to sensors measuring 36x24mm – identical to the classic 35mm film format. This is larger than Super 35 (Cine) and offers advantages in field of view and depth of field.
Practical Application
Sony Venice, Canon C500 Mark II, and RED V-Raptor offer Full Frame modes. The look is characterized by extremely shallow depth of field and a more natural field of view at the same focal length.
Technical Details
Crop Factor: 1.0x (reference). Image Diagonal: 43.3mm. Comparison to Super 35: 1.5x less depth of field at the same field of view. Requires larger (more expensive) lenses for full coverage.
