Rosco 305

Overview

Rosco 305 refers to the color gel Roscolux 305 "Rose Gold" manufactured by Rosco. It is a pale, rose-amber correction and effect medium from the Roscolux series, which is stretched in front of a light source to alter the color and character of the light. Rosco describes the hue as "pale blush amber" – a delicate, slightly rosy-warm amber tone primarily used for skin tone accents and warm backlight.

Roscolux is Rosco's standard line of color, correction, and diffusion gels for event, theater, and film/TV lighting. Unlike the Cinegel series (numbers 3000/4000), which is specifically designed for light balancing on film sets, Roscolux covers a broad spectrum of theatrical and effect colors. Rosco 305, in particular, is an effect/accent color, not a neutral conversion filter.

Technical Data

Depending on the variant, Roscolux gels are made from deep-dyed polyester (PET) or through-dyed polycarbonate. Polycarbonate variants contain a flame-retardant additive. The high transmission value of 75% indicates that it is a very bright color that absorbs very little light.

Set Usage

Rosco 305 is typically used for subtle, warm rosy accents without heavily coloring the image:

• Skin Tone Correction: subtle warming and flattering of skin tones, for example in portrait and beauty lighting.
• Backlight / Edge Light: warm, slightly rose-gold backlight to separate the subject from the background.
• Mood Lighting: soft, golden "magic hour" or sunset effect.

Due to its high transmission, the gel is also suitable when only a slight color shift is desired and maximum light output needs to be preserved. With hot lights, as with all gels, ensure adequate distance or ventilation; for high-output film lights, gaffers alternatively opt for the more heat-resistant Cinegel products.
