The Panavision Ultra Vista is a modern anamorphic prime lens with a 1.65x squeeze factor, developed from 2018 exclusively for Panavision's rental system.

1. Overview

The Panavision Ultra Vista is a modern anamorphic prime lens with a 1.65x squeeze, developed from 2018 exclusively for Panavision's own rental system. With a 75mm focal length and T2.3, it is aimed at productions seeking a pronounced anamorphic look on full-frame sensors, without the harsh 2x squeeze of classic Panavision optics.

3. Creative Use

The 1.65x squeeze provides a recognizably stretched out-of-focus area and oval bokeh characteristics, but remains more manageable than classic 2x systems – relevant for camera assistants and operators working with more modern full-frame bodies. The flares are intense, with blue, green, and amber streaks as well as pronounced X-flares; this is clearly evident when used against the light. The slight barrel distortion is typical for the lens and is often intentionally left in post-production to enhance the look. Ultra Vista lenses are exclusively available for rent through Panavision branches – no independent rental house carries them – which concentrates their use on well-budgeted studio or prestige TV productions.
