The M40 produces a luminous flux of 4,680 lumens with a CRI value of ≥95 and a TLCI value of ≥96. The unit measures 195 × 120 × 55 mm and weighs 660 grams including the battery. The integrated lithium-ion battery (2600 mAh) allows for a runtime of 70 minutes at 100% power or 360 minutes at 10% power. Dimming is stepless from 0-100% via a side control dial. The aluminum housing features passive cooling without a fan and is IP54 rated for dust and splash protection.
Aputure introduced the M40 in 2020 as an addition to the AMARAN product line, aiming to bridge the gap between smaller LED panels and larger COB lights. Ich nutze die M40 hauptsächlich als portables Key Light für spontane Interviews oder als Haarlicht, wenn ich schnell zusätzliche Kontraste setzen muss. Die 5600K passen perfekt zu meinem Standard-Tageslicht-Setup, und durch die hohe Farbwiedergabe kann ich sie problemlos mit teuren Arri-Leuchten mischen, ohne später in der Farbkorrektur Probleme zu bekommen.
Die M40 ist mein Geheimtipp für atmosphärische Akzente – durch ihre Kompaktheit kann ich sie unsichtbar im Bild verstecken und gezielt Objekte oder Gesichter hervorheben. Besonders bei Nachtszenen setze ich sie gerne als simuliertes Mondlicht ein, da die 5600K diese kühle, natürliche Stimmung perfekt transportieren.
Mit 800 Euro Anschaffungskosten amortisiert sich die M40 schnell gegenüber Mietkosten größerer Leuchten, besonders bei dokumentarischen Formaten mit vielen Drehtagen. Der Wegfall von Stromkosten und die reduzierte Crew-Größe durch den Ein-Mann-Betrieb senken meine Produktionskosten erheblich, während die robuste Bauweise Reparaturkosten minimiert.
