The LiteMat 2 measures 61 x 61 x 2.5 cm with a weight of 2.3 kg and features 576 individual LEDs with a color temperature of 5600K (Tungsten version: 3200K). The CRI value is 95+, the TLCI is 97. The panel operates with an input voltage of 100-240V AC or 12-30V DC and can be controlled via DMX512. Light distribution is achieved with a 120° beam angle and a lifespan of 50,000 operating hours. Optional Bi-Color versions with stepless color temperature adjustment from 2700K to 6500K are available.
LiteGear introduced the first LiteMat generation in 2014, establishing diffused LED panels as an alternative to traditional soft lights. The LiteMat 2 was launched in 2017 with improved light output and reduced heat generation compared to its predecessor. The Bi-Color variant followed in 2019, and the Plus series with increased power in 2021. The development responded to the demand for compact, quiet light sources for confined shooting situations.

The Aputure Nova P300c achieves similar luminosity but requires more power and generates cooling noise. Quasar Science Q-LED panels are narrower but less powerful. The LiteMat 2L, introduced in 2022 with 50% higher light output, has established itself as its successor. For larger areas, gaffers combine multiple LiteMat 2s into arrays; for mobile applications, they opt for the smaller LiteMat 1.
Ich schätze am LiteMat 2 besonders die gleichmäßige Lichtverteilung ohne Hotspots, die mir weiche Schatten ohne zusätzliche Diffusion liefert. Die flache Bauform erlaubt mir die Platzierung direkt neben dem Monitor für natürliches Eye Light, ohne dass das Panel im Kamerabild erscheint. Bei Available-Light-Situationen kann ich es diskret als Aufhellung positionieren, ohne die vorhandene Lichtstimmung zu zerstören.
Das LiteMat 2 gibt mir die Kontrolle über subtile Lichtnuancen, besonders bei Dialogszenen, wo ich die Emotionen der Schauspieler durch sanfte Gesichtsausleuchtung verstärken kann. Die lautlose Arbeitsweise ermöglicht es mir, während der Aufnahme Regieanweisungen zu geben, ohne durch Lüftergeräusche gestört zu werden. Für intime Szenen schaffe ich damit eine weniger technische, entspanntere Atmosphäre am Set.
Mit 90 Watt Verbrauch reduziert das LiteMat 2 meine Stromkosten und Generator-Anforderungen erheblich gegenüber vergleichbaren HMI-Leuchten. Die kompakte Bauform spart Transportvolumen und reduziert die benötigte LKW-Kapazität bei Location-Drehs. Ein einzelnes Panel kostet etwa 1.800 Euro, amortisiert sich aber durch eingesparte Stromkosten und reduzierten Personalaufwand beim Auf- und Abbau innerhalb einer Produktion.
