Intensifier

Lens attachment (Dedolight Parallel Beam Intensifier) that converts a Dedolight fixture's flood beam into a tight parallel beam, significantly increasing light output efficiency.

Overview

In film lighting, the term Intensifier primarily refers to the Parallel Beam Intensifier from Dedolight (product family DPBA). It is not a standalone luminaire but an optical front-lens attachment that is inserted into the accessory slot of a Dedolight focusing light.

To use it, the luminaire is set to the Flood Position. The Intensifier lens then refocuses the diverging floodlight into a very narrow, nearly parallel beam. This creates a directed light with sharp, hard shadows and a significantly increased light output. The Intensifier is also the fundamental requirement for feeding Dedolight's Lightstream reflector system from a single light source, where multiple mirror reflectors are used as virtual light sources.

Technical Data

The resulting beam angle and the increase in light output depend on the lens model and the luminaire used. According to Dedolight California, the following values apply, among others:

  • Beam Angle: approximately 4° to 8° depending on the luminaire (parallel beam)
  • Increase in Light Output: up to over 500% (model and luminaire dependent)
ModelCompatible Luminaires (Examples)Light Output Increase (Example)
DPBA-BI6DLED2-BI / DLED3n. a.
DPBA-610DLED2 / DLED3up to +533% (DLED3-D)
DPBA-710DLH4 / DLED7+81% to +244% (DLED7-BI to DLED4-T)
DPBA-714DLH4 / DLED7+310% to +425%
DPBA-1419DLH400 / DLED9 / DLED10up to +505% (e.g., DLH400-DT)
DPBA-1821DLH1200 / DLH1000up to approx. +478%

Honeycomb grids are available as supplementary accessories for several models to further control the beam.

On-Set Application

The Intensifier is used when a high-intensity, tightly focused, and directed light is needed from a relatively small Dedolight luminaire – for example, for long throws, simulating sunlight or window light over a distance, or for uniform illumination even when the luminaire is only a few meters away.

In combination with the Lightstream system, the parallel beam serves as the feed source for reflective mirror surfaces, whose reflections are then used as additional, controllable virtual light sources. Since the effect only works when the luminaire is in flood position, the correct basic setting of the focusing light is a prerequisite for its effectiveness.
