HPL 750 is a 750-watt halogen lamp with G9.5 base and heat sink, primarily used in ETC Source Four fixtures.

Overview

"HPL 750" refers to a low-voltage or mains-voltage halogen lamp (tungsten-halogen) with a nominal power of 750 watts. "HPL" is the lamp code for the type of lamp, and "750" indicates the wattage. The HPL series was originally developed for ETC Source Four luminaires and remains the characteristic light source type for this class of fixture. Therefore, it is not the luminaire itself, but the replaceable light source.

A key feature is the G9.5 two-pin base with an integrated heat sink, which thermally stabilizes the compact lamp construction and enables precise, repeatable positioning of the light-emitting element within the reflector system. This exact lamp geometry is a prerequisite for the high optical efficiency of Source Four fixtures.

Technical Data

The HPL 750 is offered in several variants depending on the market and mains voltage. The following values are manufacturer-specific and vary between versions (e.g., standard vs. long-life versions).

CharacteristicValue
Power750 W
Voltage Variants115 V, 120 V, 230 V, 240 V (special version 77 V for dimmer doubling)
BaseG9.5 two-pin with heat sink
Lamp TypeTungsten-halogen, clear
Color Temperatureapprox. 3050–3265 K (version dependent)
Lifespanapprox. 300 h (standard) to approx. 1500–2000 h (long life)

Higher color temperature and luminous flux typically come with a shorter lifespan; long-life versions trade light output for longevity.

Use on Set

The HPL 750 is the standard light source for the ETC Source Four family (profile/ellipsoidal luminaires as well as zoom and PAR/Parnel variants). In theater, TV, and film studios, the 750 W version is often chosen where the full 575 W efficiency is insufficient, but a 1000 W light source is not necessary – serving as a compromise between light output, lamp lifespan, and the thermal load on the fixture.

Important practical considerations:

  • Observe Voltage: The lamp voltage must match the mains/dimmer voltage (e.g., 230/240 V in Europe). An incorrect voltage variant will result in incorrect color temperature, power output, or premature failure.
  • Do Not Touch with Bare Hands: As with all halogen lamps, skin oils on the quartz envelope can lead to premature failure.
  • Check Fixture Rating: Some Source Four fixtures and dimmer channels are designed for specific wattage ratings; the 750 W lamp increases heat and electrical load compared to the standard 575 W lamp.
