Compact apochromatic cine primes by Dulens — 21/31/43/58/85mm at a constant T2.4, 46mm image circle, interchangeable PL/EF mount.

The Dulens APO Mini Prime is a compact cine series with apochromatic correction. Apochromatic means: three wavelengths – red, green, and blue – are focused onto the same image plane instead of just two. This significantly reduces longitudinal and lateral chromatic aberrations, meaning color fringing at hard contrast edges and color casts in the out-of-focus areas.

The Series

Five focal lengths: 21, 31, 43, 58, and 85mm, all at T2.4. A 110mm was announced next. The image circle is 46mm, thus covering Large Format – not just Super 35. The mount is interchangeable between PL and EF.

The Character — Not Entirely Neutral

APO correction suggests a clinically clean lens, and in a mixed set, the Dulens are happy to play the role of the precise center alongside more characterful glass. However, they are not entirely neutral: Dulens advertises a VC coating that smooths skin tones and adds halation to the image. Anyone planning to use the series as purely reference glass should test this on a test day beforehand – there is also an explicit APO Mini Vintage Series with a softer look.
