Eighth generation of the Cooke S-Series — T1.4 across the range, 46.3mm image circle for large format, twelve focal lengths from 18 to 135mm.
The Cooke S8/i is the latest generation of the S-Series, Cooke's spherical standard prime line. It opens up to T1.4, making it among the fastest lenses built for large format – a full stop faster than the S4/i and S7/i, both of which are T2.0.
The Series
Twelve focal lengths: 18, 21, 25, 27, 32, 35, 40, 50, 65, 75, 100, and 135mm, all at T1.4. The image circle of 46.3 mm covers full-frame and large-format sensors – ARRI Alexa LF, Sony Venice, RED Monstro – and Cooke emphasizes even illumination right into the corners.
Character
The characteristic Cooke skin tone rendition remains: warm mid-tones, soft transition into highlights. What has been reduced compared to older generations are the pronounced flares – the modernized coating noticeably lowers veiling glare. Those seeking the more restless character of the S4/i won't find it here; those who need a fast, clean series with the Cooke signature will.
