The AX5 operates with an integrated 7.4V Lithium-ion battery (25Wh), providing an operating time of 4-20 hours, depending on brightness and color settings. The anodized aluminum housing is IP65 certified and can withstand drops of up to 1.5 meters. The color temperature can be continuously adjusted between 1750K and 20,000K, while the RGB mixing allows for over 16.7 million colors. The beam angle is 25° and can be extended up to 120° with diffusers. Remote control is via the proprietary AsteraApp via Bluetooth or by DMX signal through a separate AsteraBox system.

The Silent Mode eliminates fan noise during sound recording, while the pixel mapping function enables complex light animations. Limitations include the restricted light output for large rooms and battery life for long takes.
The AX5 directly competes with the Arri SkyPanel S30-C but offers significantly more mobility at a lower light output. Ich schätze am AX5 die präzise Farbwiedergabe und die Möglichkeit, auch in engen Räumen ohne Kabelverlegung zu arbeiten. Die App-Steuerung erlaubt mir, während der Aufnahme diskret Anpassungen vorzunehmen, ohne dass der Tonmann Schritte oder Kabelgeräusche aufnimmt. Bei Low-Key-Szenen reicht die Lichtleistung völlig aus, für Tageslicht-Situationen brauche ich aber zusätzliche Verstärkung.
Der AX5 ermöglicht mir spontane Lichtstimmungen, die ich ohne aufwendige Umbauten testen kann – besonders wertvoll bei emotionalen Szenen, wo ich verschiedene Farbtemperaturen ausprobieren möchte. Die stumme Arbeitsweise stört nie die Schauspielführung, und ich kann auch während der laufenden Aufnahme über mein Tablet die Atmosphäre anpassen. Für Thriller-Szenen nutze ich gerne die Effekt-Presets, die authentisches Fernsehlicht oder Blaulicht simulieren.
Ein AX5 kostet etwa 650 Euro und rechnet sich schnell durch eingesparte Stromkosten und reduzierte Beleuchtungszeit. Besonders bei Location-Drehs ohne verfügbare Steckdosen spare ich Generatorkosten und Genehmigungsaufwand. Die Robustheit reduziert Reparaturkosten, und die einfache Bedienung verkürzt die Einarbeitungszeit für neue Beleuchter erheblich.
