Overview
The Aputure Light Dome II is a light modifier (softbox) from the manufacturer Aputure. It is a deep, parabolically shaped octagon softbox with a 16-sided (hexagonal) cross-section, which is attached to daylight LED spotlights via a Bowens Mount – typically to COB fixtures such as the Aputure 120D Mark 2, 300D II, or 300X, as well as to other lamps with a Bowens front mount. The 16 spokes create 32 axis points, resulting in a nearly circular light output and round catchlights in the eyes.
The Light Dome II is the medium-sized variant of the Light Dome family. It sits between the more compact Light Dome Mini II (beauty dish-like, wider light pattern) and was later superseded by the Light Dome III.

The package includes two interchangeable front diffusers with different densities (light loss approx. 1.5 stops or 2.5 stops), a 40° grid for controlling the light beam, and a gel holder. The interior is silver-coated to increase output.
Use on Set
The Light Dome II produces soft, directed light and is primarily used as the key light for interviews, portraits, and beauty setups. Its deep design offers more directional control than flat softboxes; with the 40° grid, spill light can be further contained to keep adjacent surfaces clean.
The Quick-Release Speedring System is practically relevant: setup and breakdown, according to the manufacturer, take less than a minute and can be done by one person. When choosing a location, the large diameter of around 89 cm and the depth of approximately 61 cm must be considered – the Light Dome II consequently requires significant space on set.
