ACEScc is a logarithmic ACES encoding variant optimized for color grading with familiar curve characteristics.

Definition

ACEScc (ACES Color Correction) is a logarithmic encoding variant of the ACES system, specifically developed for color grading. Unlike linear ACES2065-1, ACEScc offers a familiar, log-like curve that can be intuitively manipulated with traditional grading tools.

Characteristics

Logarithmic Curve

  • Similar behavior to Cineon, LogC, S-Log
  • Midtones correspond to approx. 18% gray
  • Highlight and shadow roll-off

No Negative Values

ACEScc is limited to the positive value range, which can lead to clipping during extreme grading. Therefore, ACEScct was developed.
