Color correction gel for artificial light — reduces green cast by half a stop. Used when tungsten light throws too much green but full correction pulls too much.

  1. Plus Green vs. Minus Green:
  • Minus Green (Magenta): Compensates for green tint → for fluorescent/old tungsten lamps
  • Plus Green (Green): Compensates for magenta tint → for problematic LEDs/HS cameras
  • Opposites: One color for opposite problems
  1. Full vs. 1/2 Plus Green:
  • Full Plus Green: For extreme magenta tint

Cinematographer

With a 1/2 Plus Green, you compensate for magenta color casts, which is mainly relevant with LED sources that have a problematic spectrum. The white balance shifts slightly greener – manually set it about 100-150 K colder. This filter is less common than Minus Green and is mostly only used with special LED types or for creative grading effects. With modern cameras, you can often achieve similar effects through Kelvin adjustment.

Gaffer

The 1/2 Plus Green Filter is used significantly less often than Minus Green, but it does come up in specific situations. If you're working with so-called 'Tungsten-LED' or 'Warm-White' LED lights that lean towards magenta, Plus Green can help. It's also valuable with high-speed cameras, which are often too magenta-heavy. Alternatively, Plus Green is used for deliberate cinematic effects – for example, for a sci-fi look or to create scenes with a special atmosphere.
