Technical Characteristics
As a cinematographer, I appreciate the B-Speed for its distinctive optical characteristics – the warm, organic look is difficult to replicate with modern lenses. The extreme aperture of T1.3 allows me to work even in the most challenging lighting conditions without additional lighting, although the shallow depth of field requires precise focusing. Areas of Application
The Zeiss B-Speed lend my films a nostalgic, authentic atmosphere that perfectly suits period pieces or productions with a retro-aesthetic ambition. Together with my cinematographer, I consciously use the characteristic optics of these lenses to create an emotional connection with the audience and support the desired temporal setting. B-Speed lenses are a costly investment, as vintage equipment is often more expensive than modern alternatives and incurs additional maintenance costs. Nevertheless, the unique look often justifies the extra cost, especially when it is part of the creative concept – however, I always plan for backup lenses in case of technical problems.
