Definition

Large Format (LF) refers to capture formats larger than the traditional Super 35 cine standard. This includes Full Frame (36x24mm), Vista Vision, and larger.

Practical Application

ARRI ALEXA 65, RED Monstro VV, Sony Venice in Full Frame mode. Large Format offers shallower depth of field, a more natural field of view, and higher resolution. Ideal for epic landscape shots.

Technical Details

Super 35: ~24.9x18.7mm. Full Frame: 36x24mm. ALEXA 65: 54.12x25.58mm. Vista Vision: ~36x24mm but horizontal. Crop Factors compared to FF: S35 = 1.5x, MFT = 2x, ALEXA 65 = 0.67x.
