150W softlight fixture — compact, portable, perfect for close-ups and face lighting on set. Produces soft, shadowless illumination without heat buildup.

The 150W Softlight is a staple for any cinematographer working with small, agile lighting setups, especially in documentary work or tight-space interviews. With its 150-watt halogen lamp, it provides sufficient illumination for facial lighting without needing to appear like a large theatrical key light. You can set it up quickly, fine-tune the brightness, and maintain full control over softness and falloff.

The design utilizes a diffusion head that scatters the halogen light through white silk or similar fabrics, resulting in virtually no shadow edges on the face. This is ideal when you need to switch quickly between close-ups and medium shots without constant readjustment. In the studio, the 150W is often used as a key light for beauty shots or as a fill light alongside a more powerful 1000W fixture. On location, such as in private residences or small offices, it replaces larger lighting setups without issue and saves space in your van.

The advantage lies in its compactness: the fixture doesn't require a heavy stand, and you can attach it anywhere with lightweight clamps. The 150-watt halogen lamp heats up quickly and produces that classic, slightly yellowish color temperature (around 3200K), which you can either calibrate with a CTB filter or use intentionally for a warm, intimate look. Pay attention to the beam characteristic – the closer you bring the 150W to the face, the softer the illumination appears; at a greater distance, it becomes more directional and harder.

Practicality: The low wattage means less heat radiation for actors and crew, which is important for longer takes or when sensitive camera equipment is nearby. Replacement lamps are inexpensive and readily available. When working with the 150W, you'll quickly find that it simplifies on-location lighting improvisation and saves you time on lighting setups without sacrificing quality.
