Curve

rgb curve academy curve curved track

Graphical tool for precise tonal and color adjustments by manipulating input-output relationships.

Definition

Curves (gradation curves) are the most powerful tool for tonal correction. The diagonal line represents input (horizontal) to output (vertical) - raising the curve brightens, lowering it darkens.

Practical Application

S-curves increase contrast, inverse S-curves reduce it. RGB curves allow separate adjustment of color channels for precise color correction. Every professional grading system offers Curves as a core function.

Technical Details

Linear vs. Logarithmic Curves: Log curves offer more control in the shadows. Bezier curves allow smooth transitions. The steepness of the curve defines the contrast in that tonal range.
