4x4 aluminum frame for flexible light shaping; accommodates diffusion, silk, or bounce fabric.

Technical Details

For me, the 4x4 frame is one of the most important tools for light shaping – it gives me the flexibility to diffuse harsh sunlight or create soft fill light as a bounce. I particularly appreciate its quick adjustability during shooting when lighting conditions change. The 4x4 frame is a technique in film production. A term from lighting and grip technology.

Use on Set

I work closely with the cinematographer to support the emotional impact of scenes through targeted lighting – the 4x4 frame allows us subtle mood changes. The large surface area creates natural-looking lighting situations that support the authenticity of the actors' performances. The 4x4 frame is a cost-effective solution, as one frame with different fabrics can replace multiple expensive lights. The standardized dimensions facilitate transport and storage, while the versatility of the system reduces rental costs and shortens shooting times.
