3D Modeling

Creating three-dimensional digital representations of objects or characters for film and animation.

Technical Details

As a cinematographer, I work closely with 3D artists to ensure that virtual camera settings harmonize with my real-world camera work. Precise documentation of focal lengths, camera movements, and lighting setups is essential so that the 3D models can be seamlessly integrated into my shots later on.

Practical Application

For me, 3D modeling opens up entirely new storytelling possibilities, especially for fantasy or historical subjects. I can visualize scenes with previz models during pre-production and precisely convey my vision to my team. Close collaboration with 3D supervisors is crucial for the final artistic outcome. 3D modeling is a significant cost factor that requires careful planning. I need to define the scope of required assets early on and budget for software licenses, hardware, and specialized professionals. Scheduling is critical, as complex models can take several weeks to develop.
